Through the assistance and grant provided by GM Spring Hill
Manufacturing , as well as, a partnership with Columbia State Community College,
the South Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance is now taking registrations for
their “Go Tech” Summer Career Camps held throughout their eight county region.

The first
camp in the “Go Tech” series is the Code Camp. These all day camps are for students ages 12-18 years and teach the
basics of programming through the creation of video games and web applications.
Throughout the week, professional programmers are brought in to speak with the
students about their job and the computer science industry. At the end of the
week, there is a “Demo Day” for parents to observe what the students have
learned throughout the week. The cost of this camp is $50 per student. Please
ask about scholarship opportunities for qualified applicants when registering.

A new addition
this year to the career camp line up is a Web Design Camp, which tackles more
advanced coding for students ages 12-18 years. This camp will help students understand the
fundamentals of designing and creating a website with HTML, CSS, and
Javascript. The cost of this
camp is $50 per student.

The third camp focuses
on Robotics. A three day Teen Robotic
Camp will be for high school students. The primary goal is to stimulate
participant excitement for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Robotics
will be used as the means to expose the participants to the different aspects
of STEM with an emphasis on Technology. Specific objectives of the camp
are learn concepts of programming, engineering practices and teamwork. They
will work with, build, and program physical robots.

July 11-13th Spring Hill
The final camp
in the series is the Advanced Manufacturing Academy. These all day camps are
specifically designed for high school students and will be held at GM Spring
Hill Manufacturing. Camps will include:
involvement in team-based work simulations; work with local engineers;
solve problems; tour facility; and enjoy exposure to high tech jobs in advanced
manufacturing. At the end of the second day, there is a “Demo Day” for parents.
