Spot Lowe students won big at the state level in Chattanooga for Skills USA last week. Students that currently take, or have taken classes at the Spot Lowe Technology Center, are able to join the student organization known as Skills USA. In this organization, students participate in various activities throughout the year, including leadership training, community service, and competitions.
The Skills chapter at Spot Lowe currently has over 40 members. In February of this year, 23 of the members participated in the Regional Championship contests that was hosted at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Nashville. At these competitions, students compete against students from other schools in contests that are aligned to their specific program of study. Out of the 23 students that competed in the regionals , 15 students advanced to the State Championships. Out of the 15 students that competed at the State level, 5 won gold, 1 won silver, and 2 won bronze.
Congratulations to Jennifer Jimenez and Matthew Bragdon for winning Gold in Automation & Robotics; Carlos Alvarez for winning Gold in Industrial Motor Control; Tyler Woodard for winning Gold in Action Skills; Cody Mitchell for winning Gold in Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair Level 2; Tykiera Gulley for winning Silver in Job Application; Andy Hill for winning Bronze in HVAC; and Shelby Toombs for winning Bronze in Nurse Assisting.
Jennifer, Matthew, Carlos and Tyler will all move on to the National Competition in Louisville, KY in June.
